My little June Bugs @ 20 weeks

I finally got up the courage for a bare belly shot. EEE might be my last(I need a tan):).

How far along? 20 Weeks!

Baby's Size? The girls are now the size of a cantaloupe!
They gulp down several ounces of amniotic fluid every day, both for nutrition and to practice swallowing and digesting. And, these days, those taste buds actually work! Studies show that after birth, babies respond best to tastes they've already had via amniotic fluid. Meaning, think about what you'd like your future child to eat as you prepare your own lunch.

Weight Gain? 10-12 lbs

Maternity Clothes? All maternity pants. I need some shirts but I hate shopping so I keep putting it off.

Stretch marks? None!! I wonder if I will get them, when will they come?

Belly button in or out? Flat, not sure if it will poke out or just stay smooth?

Sleep? EEEHHH.....some nights are better than others. Mainly my hips and shoulders hurt when I sleep on them.

Foods I am loving? A little of everything. Still tomatoes with salt and Ice water, lots and lots of ice.

Foods I am hating? Nothing new

Best moment this week? Getting the cribs set up with the bedding in!

Movement? Yes but barely. Just in the past day or two I started noticing little flutters.

Symptoms? stuffy nose that has become bloody (YUCK) backaches, hips and shoulder aches while sleeping, leg cramps and sciatic nerve pain.

Genders? Two girls

What I miss? Not having to use the bathroom in the middle of the night.

What I'm looking forward to? My showers! Even though they are still almost two months away.

Weekly Wisdom: Move slowly

Milestone: Getting the nursery ready.

Emotions: Excited.

We have decided on names. Give me a week or two just to make sure DH doesn't change his mind before I spill the beans. So excited.

  1. A) your belly is adorable! And keep doing bare belly shots, even if you don't post them here. You'll be glad to have them later.

    B) I can't believe you have only gained 10-12 lbs and you're 20 weeks pregnant with twins. That's crazy!

    C) You will probably get stretch marks, especially since you're having twins. I didn't get mine until I was like 37 weeks pregnant, and I was pretty big early on. They didn't even show up much until after I gave birth. They're just under my belly button though, so not too bad. Still. They're there.

  2. Yay for being half way!! You look great! My stretch marks didn't come until AFTER the baby was born. I got two little ones on my side (so random!) and then on my chest when my milk came in. :/ Can't wait to hear the names! :)

  3. I'm surprised I have only gained that much too. My OB isn't concerned and both babies are growing right on schedule.

  5. Fenugreek and Blessed Thistle are two galactogogues that help increase milk supply. You can find them easily at any health store, pretty much. Fenugreek is what they add to fake maple syrup, which is why I smell like maple syrup! lol.

Most women (by far) can produce enough milk as long as they have a proper latch and feed the baby on demand. Supply problems do exist, but they're often due to improper latch, so the breast doesn't drain properly, so you stop making as much milk. They can also be due to scheduling the baby instead of feeding on demand. The best way to keep your supply up is to nurse often, so with two babies you'll be nursing pretty much around the clock until they get a bit older and faster.

Also, nurse AS SOON AS POSSIBLE after the birth. Studies have shown that if a baby doesn't nurse within 2 hours after birth, he starts to lose his instinct for a proper latch.

    A GREAT website is http://www.drjacknewman.com/

He has soooo much information on BFing, along with videos on techniques and latch and whatever else. You'll see a lot of boob in those videos, but it's so worth it. This was by far the best website I've ever seen on BFing, and I didn't find it until Noah was 9 months old. I wish I had seen it before he was born, even though we didn't have any real problems. If more women were aware of this site there would be fewer problems breastfeeding.

  6. Hi! I came over from Lauren's blog - I saw your comment about bfing and wanted to offer you encouragement!

I have successfully breastfed my twins for 10 1/2 months now!!! You CAN do it!!

I didn't have a great delivery and so my milk was delayed big time, but with the help of lactation consultants and some hard work - we finally got it!! I will say it came much harder for me than it did for most women. We overcame low supply, improper latching, slow weight gain, and a few other things too. My twins came home from the hospital on formula, and we were able to wean them off of it completely within a few weeks!! It was HARD work, but honestly soooooo worth it. And a LOT of women don't have as much trouble, I am just trying to say that if you are really wanting to breastfeed, you can overcome almost anything!!! =)

I wold love to offer you any encouragement I can =)
